Dome Productions’ New Truck Outfitted with Calrec Sigma Audio Console

Dome Productions will install a Calrec Audio 64-fader Sigma console with Bluefin high-density signal processing (HDSP) in its newest HD truck, Echo. The 53-foot trailer was designed for lean, standalone operation on frontline shows including NHL, NBA, and Major League Baseball.

The new Sigma is Dome’s eighth audio console provided by Calrec. In January, Dome took delivery of a 56-fader Calrec Omega desk with an expanded 240-channel Bluefin HDSP card. Installed in a refurbished production truck, it went on to “perform flawlessly” at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, according to Mike Johnson, director of engineering for Dome Productions.

“Our business is growing, and we are building capacity to match,” says Johnson. “We appreciate the capabilities of Calrec Audio’s platform, but just as important is the reliability and the outstanding support we get from the company.”

Calrec’s signature Bluefin HDSP packs all the necessary computing power onto a single card – saving space and electricity. The Sigma with Bluefin incorporates 320 channel processing paths that can be configured for as many as 52 full surround channels, and offers as much as 19.6 minutes of audio delay (made up of 432 elements) that can be inserted in signal paths to fix video synchronization problems.

The new Echo trailer, built by Gerling and Associates, is currently being wired and integrated at Dome’s own facility near Toronto. It is set to take on its first assignment in November.
