Lacrosse Academy Taps Dartfish for Video Analysis Tools

Student athletes who check into the IMG Lacrosse Academy this fall or winter will literally come face-to-face with their own performances. This year, the academy will be using Dartfish Video Analysis to help its students improve their game. In addition to top-flight coaches, students will have access to the Dartfish software, which allows students to review their coaches’ notes long after they have left the field.

“Our software allows people to work on the field and create a lot of content very quickly,” says Dartfish CEO Victor Bergonzoli. “Once they have created the content, they can upload everything to a private site on the Web or leave it public, and students can access the videos and analysis. IMG now uses this software for their soccer, tennis, and lacrosse academies.”

At the IMG Lacrosse Academy, students practice drills on the field that help them to become more well-rounded players. As they practice, their actions are recorded through the Dartfish system. A coach then goes back through the footage and tags it with comments, and students can watch the full video or skip to specific moments in the footage that are tagged on the playback. The videos are then published to so that students can access them from anywhere.

“On the Web, the students can go frame by frame, read all the analysis, read the coaches’ comments, download the reports, and print any attachments,” Bergonzoli says. “Ninety-five percent of the North American medals in Vancouver were won by athletes using Dartfish.”

Indeed, in addition to the IMG Academies, hundreds of sport federations, leagues, and even individual teams — including several from Major League Baseball — use the Dartfish software for rapid content creation that can then be analyzed by players and coaches alike. In addition to player development, MLB teams are also using the software for scouting purposes.
