SVG, MLB Introduce 40 Students to ‘The Women of MLB’

As part of SVG’s Women’s Sports Media Initiative (WSMI), 40 female students representing 15 colleges and universities visited MLB Network on Nov. 30. During the three-hour event, students were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of MLB Network and MLB Productions, as well as insights into how some of the industry’s most influential women got their start in sports production.

After a breakfast with some of MLB’s newer hires, the students stepped into the grandstand inside Studio 42, where seven executives and production personnel participated in a panel discussion on their work in the industry. Panelists touched on their first jobs in the business and obstacles they’ve faced along the way, offering advice on self-confidence, job hunting, and the challenges of working in a male-dominated industry.

The panel of executives included Mary Beck, SVP of marketing and promotions, MLB Network; Cindy Cortell, director of IT, MLB Network; Patti Fallick, director of broadcast operations, MLB Network; Annie Gottlieb, associate producer, MLB Network; Elizabeth Scott, VP of programming and business affairs, MLB Productions; Susan Stone, SVP of operations, MLB Network; and Kristen Wendland, producer, MLB Productions.

The students in attendance were also treated to a tour of the MLB Network facility, including studios, production-control room, and the Diamond Asset Management System.
