AP Picked To Distribute Content for 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race

The 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race does not begin until next autumn, but the organisers have already begun deciding who will cover the event on its behalf. Associated Press has been selected as a global content-distribution provider and will supply HD video, photographs, and other material to the media.

Footage will be available through the news agency’s commercial-sales division, AP Images, and the AP Mobile multimedia portal. “We are proud to be working with such a prestigious international event and are committed to delivering the most exciting content to the world’s media on a daily basis,” says James Claydon, AP Images’ product manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “With multi-platform access to thousands of daily newspaper, radio, television, and online customers, we believe that only AP can offer such a massive project a truly global and all-media solution.”

Says Pedro Galvan Paris, marketing and communications manager for the Volvo Ocean Race, “Our strategy for the upcoming event is to create as much quality content as we can and ensure that it is distributed globally by appointing media providers, such as the Associated Press.” The race organizers, he adds, are negotiating with other distributors and will confirm further appointments later this year and early into next year.

Competitors in the 11th Volvo Ocean Race will set off from Alicante, Spain, during autumn 2011 and reach the finish line in Galway, Republic of Ireland, during the following summer.

All filming of the race will be in HD, but camera formats and specifications will not be decided until nearer the start of the event, so the latest technology can be used both on board the competing yachts and at the stop-over ports.
