SENSIO Awarded Patent Related to Proprietary 3D Format

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 7,844,001 to SENSIO, covering the way in which a merged stream of images is encoded and decoded. The company says the patent establishes exclusive rights over decoding of content encoded in its proprietary SENSIO 3D format.

This latest U.S. patent clearly establishes our ownership of the technology and helps us ensure that products asserting that they decode the SENSIO 3D format actually meet our exacting quality standards,” explains Nicholas Routhier, SENSIO President and CEO. “By protecting our IP, we monetize our hard work, and we ensure that the high-fidelity images, for which our partners selected SENSIO 3D further up the delivery chain, actually reach the end-user.”

SENSIO 3D is a spatial compression technology for encoding (compression) and decoding (decompression) of 3D images. This unique frame-compatible format for high-quality stereoscopic signal processing developed by SENSIO, has been deployed in the field for eight years. SENSIO 3D has been used in all commercial live 3D events produced around the world.

SENSIO says the issuance of this U.S. patent represents yet another step toward SENSIO’s goal of a worldwide patent presence. The company has patents pending with the European Patent Office, as well as Japan and China.
