Venue News: Auburn Arena To Show SEC Title Game

Auburn University students and fans are invited to watch the Southeastern Conference championship game on the video boards at Auburn Arena following Sunday’s women’s basketball game against Temple. The SEC football title game between Auburn and South Carolina will air at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday Dec. 4 on CBS. The CBS broadcast will be shown on the arena’s high-definition video boards. …The Minnesota Vikings hope to have a plan for a publicly owned stadium, including site, costs, and a financial partner, to present to state lawmakers within 30-60 days, team VP Lester Bagley said this week. The team is “doing due diligence” on four sites, he said: three in Minneapolis and one in a suburb. He declined to specify the sites: “I don’t want to speak for anybody until our work is done.” The estimated cost of a fixed-roof stadium is $791 million, but Bagley said construction costs would vary by site…

Both San Jose, CA, and Oakland are plowing forward with plans to build a state-of-the-art ballpark for the A’s with little public financing and loads of amenities. This week, Oakland’s plan was poised for a significant step forward, while San Jose’s suffered a setback. In Oakland, about 200 green-and-gold–clad A’s fans packed a planning commission meeting to support the city’s plans for a waterfront stadium near Jack London Square. The public input wraps up preliminary steps before the city launches an environmental-impact report.
