RTP Madeira Picks Solid State Logic Audio Consoles

Portuguese TV station RTP Madeira has put new digital audio consoles into its news- and entertainment-production studios as part of a general upgrade to full-HD operations.

Two Solid State Logic C10 HD compact broadcast desks have been installed at RTP Madiera’s headquarters in the island’s capital, Funchal. The TV channel is a division of public-service broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) and transmits tailored programming — including sport, particularly football, professional basketball, and surfing — to the autonomous principalities of the Madeira archipelago and Azores Islands.

One C10 is installed in News Studio 1, handling live-to-air bulletins and reports. The other is in Production Studio 2, which is used for live and as-live recorded talk shows and entertainment productions.

RTP Madeira recently moved to HD production and transmission, with the C10s forming part of the upgrade. The audio installation also includes two XLogic Alpha-Link Live I/O systems and four Alpha-Link 8 RMP eight-channel microphone preamps, which can be controlled from the C10 consoles.

RTP Madeira, which went on-air in 1972, is distributed via cable on Madeira itself, with a satellite feed to the Azores. Madeira is 610 miles southwest of Lisbon; the Azores archipelago is 930 miles west of the Portuguese capital.

According to Antonio Viera, sales manager for AuVid Cientifico, SSL’s representative in Portugal, the C10 HD consoles were chosen partly because of the constraints of space and budget at RTP Madeira. “The consoles give RTP Madeira the same production features as a large network studio,” he says, “and we were very happy that we did not have to get a digital desk that was really designed for music studios, not for broadcast.”
