SVG Year in Review: Feburary

February brought SVG to the sun and the snow as the Super Bowl headed to sunny Miami before all eyes turned to Vancouver for the Winter Olympic Games. Ken Kerschbaumer was in Miami to report on the CBS Sports production team’s winning telecast, their use of a super-sized EVS server system, the key role played by the Inertia Unlimited xMo, and the debut of EyeVision, powered by Orad.

The SVG team then headed north to Vancouver, where we checked in with technical and operations personnel at every Olympic venue, beginning with Olympic Broadcasting Services CEO Manolo Romero. OBS head of engineering Sotiris Salamouris also sat down with SVG in advance of the games, and then it was off to the races (and slopes) – from curling and hockey to ski jumping, biathlon, and all eight alpine ski events. We also checked in with the teams in charge of virtual enhancements, specialty cameras, and surround sound, not to mention the NBC Highlights Factory, Streaming Factory, and NBC Olympics head of venue engineering Chip Adams and SVP of engineering Dave Mazza.
