NAB 2011: Selenio Platform Tops Harris Intros

Harris is introducing a variety of products across its workflow, infrastructure and networking businesses as NAB, as well as its transmission and Videotek test and measurement portfolios. New is Harris Selenio , the industry’s first integrated media convergence platform.  It is a modular solution that combines traditional baseband video and audio processing, compression and IP networking features within a single, 3RU platform.

Selenio hosts up to 28 channels of high-density baseband video processing, and supports both MPEG-2 and H.264 compression standards and advanced audio capabilities including 5.1 and loudness control. A built-in web-based GUI provides functional block diagrams to simply configuration, monitoring and management of multiple functionalities.

Harris is also showing NEXIO Farad in the U.S. for the first time. The online storage system is designed for large-scale ingest, editing and playout for production, sports, news and live-event applications.  It is useful for production environments with escalating storage and bandwidth requirements due to higher data rate codecs, more channels, more concurrent editing seats, additional camera feeds, 3 Gb/s and the overall volume of content.

New enhancements for the Harris Apex M2X exciter are being debuted, including a plug-in module that provides an IP input for ASI streams.  This module allows the user to manage the interface while retaining the existing backup ports in the native ASI transport stream format.  A new satellite receiver module allows broadcasters to download content from a satellite and feed it directly into the exciter without external device requirements.

Harris is also showing its Magellan router control panels and HView range of multiviewers.  Available in 1 and 2RU versions, Magellan control panels control routing systems, and its design is based on optimizing router navigation and control within the layout of a typical facility or broadcast truck.

Two HView multiviewers will alsobe on display: The HView IP multiviewer, built for networked environment with compressed video and audio feeds; and the HView SX Hybrid multiviewer, designed for hybrid applications with traditional and IP signals.

The HView IP multiviewer supports multiple compression formats and resolutions and includes support for virtual network control, RSS display and multiformat IP stream decoding with visual alarming.   The HView Hybrid SX multiviewer combines baseband and broadband monitoring, superior graphics, and optional integrated test and measurement tools for baseband signals in a single chassis.  It resides within the output section of the Harris Platinum router frame, and is available as either a multiviewer-only or multiviewer/router integrated solution.

Harris will also show audio loudness and 3D enhancements to existing Videotek test and measurement tools.  Loudness enhancements have been added to the TVM series of multiformat signal analyzers and VTM series of multiformat onscreen monitors, including upgrades to support the ITU-R BS.1770 standard.  3DTV signal monitoring has also been added to the Harris Videotek VTM-4150PKG monitor and TVM-9150PKG signal analyzer packages.  New displays can show four pictures simultaneously, including combinations of Left Eye-Right Eye, Mix, Split, Left Minus Right, and anaglyph.
