NAB 2011: T-VIPS Serves Up JPEG-2000

SVG members at NAB with an eye out for JPEG-2000 encoders, decoders, and related transmission gear will want to visit the T-VIPS booth, where the company plans to introduce a number of products designed to make the complex simple.

“Our products, like the re-multiplexer, are easy to use and have no need for training to operate,” says T-VIPS COO Janne Morstol. “In addition, we now have interfaces to handle regional networks.”

When T-VIPS began to roll out JPEG-2000 products, she says, many customers didn’t know what it was. But today, she adds, they understand the advantages of JPEG-2000: high-quality video and audio, low latency, and support of multiple encodes and decodes without signal loss.

The company will also be exhibiting advanced seamless switching between a primary and backup signal path as well as monitoring of such services as electronic programming guides to make sure the information is accurate. Those services will be addressed in two new products, one focused on monitoring and switching and the other on transcoding and processing.

3D services will also be a focus, with JPEG-2000 units making the leap to 3D and 3D support.

“We see our customers moving towards 3D,” Morstol adds, “and we can pass full-resolution 3D in both the left and right eye.”
