ESPN 3D Adds Masters, NBA Finals to Programming Slate

ESPN 3D has added two heavyweight events to its rapidly growing programming lineup: The Masters Tournament and the NBA Finals.

In April, ESPN 3D will feature 10 hours of Masters coverage from Augusta National Golf Club, including two hours from all four rounds of the tournament. ESPN 3D’s live Masters telecasts begin with the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday, April 6 (3-5 p.m. ET). Thursday and Friday’s tournament action airs from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday’s telecasts from 5-7 p.m.

Last April, the Masters became the first major sporting event produced and broadcast in 3D live internationally on television and the Internet.

In June, ESPN 3D will produce every game (all seven if necessary) of the NBA Finals for the time ever. ESPN 3D has a total of 13 playoff games scheduled, including three Western Conference Finals matchups.

ESPN 3D televised the first NBA game Dec. 17, when the Miami Heat visited the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Since December, ESPN 3D has shown six NBA games as well as a handful of college basketball games. The network’s next NBA outing will be Feb. 25, when the Oklahoma City Thunder travel to Orlando to take on the Magic.

On Feb. 14, ESPN 3D became a 24-hour network, primarily running replays of previous 3D games. Launched in during the 2010 World Cup in June, ESPN 3D plans to telecast more than 100 live events in its first year.
