NAB 2011: Harmonic To Highlight Collaboration, Integration

With the first anniversary of Harmonic’s acquisition of Omneon approaching in May, the company is understandably playing a lot of its cards close to its chest in the run-up to NAB. But the indications are that the meshing of the two companies has so far been a relatively smooth process.

Harmony, if you’ll excuse the pun, will also be on show externally, as the company showcases its ability to maximise collaborative workflows, such as integration with FilmPartners’ MXFServer, which enables collaborative production with a range of NLE systems, and a system that was developed to interface with EVS XT[2] servers for NBC’s coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. “We’re promoting this quite heavily,” says Ben Davenport, solutions marketing manager, Broadcast & Studio. “The partnership with EVS is working well. We both make servers that play back and ingest, but we’re pitched at different markets.”

The company will also be showcasing the new MediaPort 7000 series of video I/O modules, which allow its Spectrum media servers to support a range of codecs, formats, frame rates and resolutions, along with fully integrated up/down/crossconversion and simulcast SD and HD outputs for every channel.

A forthcoming release in the Rhozet product line, meanwhile, will bring a substantial increase in transcode speeds, with the company’s roadmap already suggesting that those speeds are set to accelerate even more impressively with future versions.
