NAB 2011: Masstech To Showcase New Emerald System

Masstech will launch Emerald version 7.5 LE (Lite Edition) at the NAB Show in April. The company says the system shatters conventions to make LTO tape archiving, high-speed transcoding, and content management more widely accessible to the mainstream broadcast market. In keeping pace with the challenges of today’s evolving ecosystem, a turnkey Emerald is competitively priced at $42,000 including IBM server hardware, a Spectra T50e LTO5 library, and Emerald v7.5 software. It is intended to maximize efficiency and boost productivity with automatic archive, restore, partial-file extraction, and low-resolution proxy creation for intuitive operator search and preview. Emerald integrates seamlessly into newsroom-control systems like iNEWS and ENPS and comes with a complete Avid and FCP production interface. Emerald, the company says, is defining the new price/performance of file-based workflow technology: “We have never charged for storage capacity.”
