Viewcast Pegs Dowd to Lead Efforts in Asia

ViewCast has hired Kevin Dowd as managing director of ViewCast’s Hong Kong office. He will be responsible for defining technology solutions for customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region, supporting sales initiatives to deliver ViewCast products to new and existing customers, and training distribution partners. Dowd is based in Hong Kong.

“Expansion in the Asian marketplace is a key strategic driver this year for ViewCast and, in doing so, we are committed to providing world-class support to our existing and future Asian customer base,” says Dave Stoner, President and CEO, ViewCast. “Leveraging ViewCast’s technology expertise with Kevin’s existing relationships and understanding of the unique business climate of the Asia-Pacific Region, we intend to exceed our customers’ expectations for our value-added products and services.”

ViewCast first established an Asian presence in the late 1990’s and now, under Dowd’s direction, ViewCast will look to expand its existing customer base in Asia.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of the World Total Broadcast and DTT Video Encoders Market, finds that the market earned revenues of nearly $190 million in 2009 and is expected to grow at a high single-digit growth rate through 2016, fueled by digital deadlines and HD upgrade revenues. Digital mandates are anticipated to fuel immediate demand for video encoders in Asia, particularly China, with HD and other advanced compression format upgrades being the real market drivers.

“Kevin is a welcome addition to the ViewCast family,” says John Hammock, ViewCast’s VP of Sales. “He is an experienced professional with a successful track record of building and managing businesses in China and the Asia-Pacific region for leading multinationals.”

Dowd joins ViewCast from RGB Networks, a provider of video solutions to the cable and IPTV industries, where he served as Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific region. His previous work experience spans various companies, including Kasenna Inc, deCarta Inc, Verilink Corporation, Aethra Telecommunications Systems, Asialink Technologies, Accord Networks Inc., Polycom, Inc. (Polycom Network Division) and STT Ltd., Shanghai, China.
