Calrec Dual-Fader Apollo Console Deployed in New NEP Denali Truck

NEP’s new Denali California truck, designed for broadcast at live entertainment shows where OB space is limited, is equipped with Calrec Audio’s 72 dual-fader Apollo console. With 1080p capability and state-of-the-art layout and design, the standalone Denali California supports more than 20 cameras and 20 servers.

George Hoover, chief technology officer for NEP Broadcasting, says a key selling point for the Apollo was its dual-fader technology, which simplifies a big show by giving mixers fast access to the maximum number of controls. Other pluses included reasonable weight; integrated Hydra2 networking, which unifies I/O whether it’s inside or outside the truck; reliability; sound quality; and client-attracting state-of-the-art technology.

The Apollo uses Calrec’s Bluefin2 high-density signal processing at multiple sample rates. At 48 kHz, Bluefin2 gives Apollo up to 1,020 channel-processing paths, 128 program busses, 96 IFB/track outputs, and 48 auxiliaries.

Denali is NEP’s entertainment division. Even so, Glen Levine, VP of mobile engineering at NEP Supershooters, says, “[Denali California] wasn’t designed for sports, but we do share resources when appropriate. It certainly has the hardware to cover sports and just about anything else.”

And since there are times when entertainment and sports do converge, such as the Super Bowl halftimes, where NEP trucks cover all aspects of the event, and since we’re through the thickest part of the broadcast-awards season, Denali California might be seen on the sidelines sooner than later.
