Fraunhofer IIS Launches Verification Program for HE-AAC Decoder Implementation

Fraunhofer IIS’s new Fraunhofer Verification Program enables licensees of its HE-AAC decoder to verify the audio quality of their implementations. Customers — such as manufacturers of consumer electronics, broadcast equipment, and mobile streaming equipment — who successfully participate in the Verification Program may be listed with their verified implementations.

The decoder implementations must pass 100% of the verification tests in several real-life scenarios, which include streaming capabilities. For this purpose, Fraunhofer IIS provides a broad selection of test bitstreams and a test tool, which helps reduce development and implementation time, enabling a faster time to market.

Said Harald Popp, head of Multimedia Realtime Systems, Fraunhofer IIS, “The verification program allows customers to ensure that they offer high-quality audio and multimedia experiences to the end user.”

HE-AAC is the standard codec in bitrate-sensitive applications, including mobile-media streaming as well as TV- and radio-broadcasting systems, such as DVB, DAB+, ATSC-M/H, ISDB, and Digital Radio Mondiale. The HE-AAC codec supports multichannel broadcasting in excellent quality at only 160 kbps, which is less than half the bitrate of other surround codecs. Fraunhofer offers optimized HE-AAC implementations for a broad range of computer platforms, DSPs, and embedded processors.

Fraunhofer is exhibiting at the NAB Show in Booth SU5520. For detailed information on the verification program, visit http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/en/bf/amm/.
