MultiDyne Tees Up LiGHTBoX 1440 at the Masters

The Masters golf tournament was a little bit brighter this year, thanks to MultiDyne’s LiGHTBoX 1440 fiber acquisition system. Tokyo Broadcasting deployed the weather-tight, portable, high-capacity box to do live cut-ins from the Par 3 course.

“People are slowly coming to the realization that they can’t do it without fiber,” says Joe Commare, VP of international and mobile/sports sales for MultiDyne. “They’ve gone kicking and screaming trying to hold onto their precious copper, but the realization is there that they need to start thinking a little more forward and planning. People are absolutely becoming more educated on how to deal with fiber.”

The LiGHTBoX 1440 helps in that crusade with its ability to handle a range of communication needs, including taking in HD camera feeds, data, Ethernet, GPI and tally, and two-channel PL intercom, among other inputs. The unit can also be custom-configured in the field or ordered to specification.

“The 1440 is a bigger brother to the original LiGHTBoX, particularly in terms of I/O capacity with up to 60 feeds,” says Frank Jachetta, managing director of MultiDyne. “It is waterproof and rugged like the original, but it has much more capacity and is wheel-able. Because it’s so portable, it’s great for sports and ENG.”

The MultiDyne LiGHTBoX 1440 can be linked to a mobile-production truck or studio over tactical fiber with standard ST optical connectors, Neutrik opticalCON, or SMPTE or Tyco cables. The box was one of many products on display at MultiDyne’s NAB Show booth.
