The Switch Expands to 44 New Cities Across North America

Beers Enterprises, owner and operator of The Switch, has formally announced plans to expand into 44 additional locations across North America.  The Switch’s existing six-city network will also be upgraded, as part of a 50 city, 10 Gig mesh network capable of transmitting in Uncompressed 3G, HD, JPEG 2000 and 270 Mbps SDI.

The 44 additional cities will be rolled out in a three-phase plan that will commence in summer of 2011, and is expected to be complete in summer of 2012.

The Switch has chosen Net Insight and its Nimbra platform to execute this 50-city network expansion.  ScheduALL will be utilized as the resource allocation management system.

Each city of The Switch will have the ability to connect to all 50 locations by utilizing Inter-City On Demand (ICOD), The Switch’s long-haul fiber transmission service.

In addition to offering service in 44 new cities, The Switch has invested in upgrades to its customer controlled user interface.  Also in summer of 2011, a next generation web-enabled customer control system will be deployed on users touch screens.  Offering customers the choice of on-demand switching or scheduled transmissions via ScheduLINK.

“The Switch has always been driven by customer demand and by anticipating what’s next in the industry,” says Scott Beers, President and CEO of The Switch.  “We are excited to meet customer request by expanding our network to 50 cities.”

According to The Switch, the investment in this new infrastructure will make the company the largest provider of customer controlled fiber switching in North America.
