All Mobile Video’s Titan Truck Equipped With HARMAN’s Studer Vista 8 Console

In an illustration of how HARMAN’s Studer Vista 8 Digital Live Production Console can add value for broadcasters, the Titan truck from All Mobile Video is fitted with a Vista 8 that has accelerated the workflow for projects ranging from professional sporting events and internationally viewed awards shows to all Metropolitan Opera live broadcasts throughout the year, to live documentaries, corporate communication events and daily television broadcasts.

With a triple Expando layout that configures it at 66 feet long by 21 feet wide when fully expanded, Titan won Television Broadcast’s coveted “Top Innovation at the 2006 National Association of Broadcasters convention.

“You would be hard pressed to sonically beat this console,” says Ian Vysick, Audio Development Specialist at AMV. “For starters, this console is easy to use, and that’s important because then I don’t have to sit down and train someone to use it each time. New users are up and running on this console in ten to fifteen minutes. That frees my time up to do other important things.”

Vysick notes that the Vista 8’s Vistonics user interface allows each engineer to build their own console to fit the needs of each unique project.

“A classic example is the pre-show for the MTV Video Music Awards program, which has a lot going on all the time,” he says. “It will need a lot of mono and stereo inputs and will be broadcast in 5.1 but will require stereo downmixes. I can build the desk into any configuration I need to do what the show calls for. I couldn’t comprehend doing the show without this console. No matter where the audio has to go, it goes through the Vista 8 effortlessly.”

The Vista 8’s flexibility stems largely from the Vistonics user interface, which provides analog console-like control and a clear display of all operating parameters along with fast, easy operation. The Vista 8 possesses powerful broadcast features to offer a highly sophisticated and flexible multipurpose live broadcast desk. For example, its unique Control Bay design offers rapid access to all faders in a small footprint, making it ideal for both fixed install broadcast and OB van applications. The Vista 8 offers additional advanced functionality, such as 7.1-channel surround-sound mixing capability, dynamic automation, a sophisticated snapshot system, dedicated mute groups and more.

“The Vistonics lets you know the status of everything whenever you need it,” says Vysick. “The dynamics are color-coded on every layer — green is compression, red is EQ and yellow is pan. If you can operate one fader, you can operate a hundred. It’s that simple. The Vista 8 has never given us any problem. And if there ever was a problem with a fader, because of its bucket design and the Vistonics, I can move to another fader instantly. It’s incredibly reliable because of the way that it’s designed and built. It’s a fantastic console.”
