Sony, Vortex Media Team for Camcorder Roadshow

Sony is taking its newest professional camcorder technologies on the road, teaming with Vortex Media to conduct a series of workshops and training classes in cities across the United States. The sessions will be led by Doug Jensen, a veteran HD cinematographer, producer/director/editor, consultant and founder of Vortex Media, as well as a member of Sony’s select Independent Certified Experts (I.C.E.) team.

Each full-day workshop will focus on a specific Sony new handheld camcorder, with topics ranging from initial setup to shooting to post-production and workflow options. Videographers will learn how to gain better control of the camera image through on-board settings, gamma curves, exposure controls, video format options, lens choices and aftermarket accessories. And additionally for the PMW-F3, the RGB 4:4:4 S-LOG upgrade will also be explored.

“We’re taking the state-of-the-art directly to where the end users are,” said Jensen. “This tour is literally going from city to city across the country and as a result, we feel customer interest and attendance will be greatly increased.”

Friday’s workshop will be dedicated to the NEX-FS100U, and the PMW-F3 workshop will be on Saturdays. Costs for each workshop will be $295, (with a 10% reduction if registered by July 1) and attendance for each workshop will be capped at 50 people. The road show is officially endorsed by Sony, with each workshop designated as “Official Sony Camcorder Training.”

“These will be full turnkey training classes with comprehensive programs and materials provided for all attendees,” said Wayne Zuchowski, broadcast/production marketing at Sony Electronics. “Doug is a true professional and we’re confident that attendees will benefit from his knowledge, experience and skill to get the most out of these cameras.”

Jensen added, “The complexity and performance capabilities of today’s equipment and software were unheard of just a few years ago. Equipment that was once too expensive for individuals to own is now within almost anyone’s grasp. These are just a few of the reasons why continuing education, even for experienced professionals, is more important than ever before.”
