Boston Out-slugs Vancouver Again in Social Media Scrap

It took a physical seven-game series, but the Boston Bruins hoisted the Stanley Cup with a victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night. The battle in cyberspace was just as tightly contested.

According to SocialGuide’s ratings system Social100, Boston again took home the title but by the slimmest of margins. Bruins-related comments beat out Canucks-related comments by just 17 for the entire series, 543,405 to 543,388.

Game 7 was the most social game with approximately 313,500 comments and 298,500 unique commentors. Game 3 was the game with the highest comments per unique ratio – 2.29. SocialGuide believes that was likely due to the fact that the game featured two big controversial hits. In Game 6 & 7 the percentage of social uniques grew at a significantly higher rate than the increase in viewership over those games. In Game 7 2.57% of the viewers were social about the game

The data was determined by calculating comments made by viewers expressly about a TV program during its airtime and that are publicly available via Twitter and Facebook API that included a team name, commonly used Twitter abbreviations, and player names or Twitter accounts.
