Ratings Roundup: NBA Draft Hits 15-Year High on ESPN

ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Draft on Thursday was the most-viewed Draft in 15 years, averaging 3.2 million viewers (P2+) and posting a 2.4 rating. That represents the largest audience since ESPN began televising the Draft in 2003 and overall since 1996. The audience for the nearly five-hour telecast (7:30 p.m.-12:15 a.m. ET), was up 15% over last year’s 2,.789 million viewers (2.2 rating)…

…Univision’s coverage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final featuring the U.S. taking on Mexico delivered 7.98 million total viewers on Saturday, up 48% from the 5.38 million viewers who tuned in for the most recent final, in 2009 (which also featured USA and Mexico). Mexico stomped the Yanks 5-0 in front of a capacity crowd at the old Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Univision’s audience was seven times the size of Fox Soccer Channel’s English-language coverage, which averaged 1.1 million viewers Saturday night between 8:37 p.m. and 11:02 p.m. EDT. Saturday’s match now ranks as the third-most watched sporting event in Univision history, trailing only the 2010 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 (Mexico-Argentina: 9.36 million) and last year’s Final (Spain-Netherlands: 8.82 million viewers)…

…TNT’s coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is off to a solid start through the network’s first three weeks of racing with an average of 5.097 million viewers (up 7% over the 2010 total season average) and a 3.1 U.S. HH rating (up 3%). TNT’s coverage on Sunday of the Toyota/SaveMart 350 from Sonoma’s Infineon Raceway earned a 3.2 U.S. HH rating, an increase of 17% from last year’s race.   The race garnered 5.188 million total viewers (up 16%) and averaged 3,743,000 households (up 21%).
