Illumination Dynamics To Power 2011 ESPY Countdown Show
Since 2002, Illumination Dynamics (ID) has provided lighting, power, and services to ESPN for the ESPY Countdown Show. The ESPY Awards celebrate athletes and unforgettable moments in sports throughout the year. Last year’s broadcast garnered more than 2.6 million viewers.
Before attendees of the show enter the theatre, they are photographed and interviewed in several stages set up along the red carpet by ESPN celebrity hosts from shows including “SportsNation,” “SportsCenter,” “The Mike and Mike Show,” and “Pardon the Interruption,” as well as ESPN International. ID provides lighting and power for the outdoor interview stages, the red carpet, and the pressroom for Post-Award Show interviews.
In the past two years, The ESPY Awards have gone live, which has grown the ESPY Countdown Show tremendously. Spanning the massive outdoor area of LA Live in Downtown Los Angeles, ID uses redundant generators to ensure that power is uninterrupted and reliable, designs and provides lighting, and brings A/C units to cool the outdoor stages.
This year, ID will provide moving lights and lighting design for the live band featured on the ESPY Countdown Show, supplying over 120 lighting fixtures total to the ESPY Countdown Show and the Post-Award Show interviews.
“It’s always a pleasure working with ESPN on big shows like this,” said Rich Williams, director of broadcast for ID and lighting director of the ESPY Countdown Show. “ID is a company with the right supplies and experience and is proud to provide equipment and services to ESPN, a network that dominates sports broadcasting, and create a show that really ‘wows’ people.” Williams is currently in his ninth year working with ESPN on The ESPY Awards.
The ESPY Awards will be broadcast Wednesday, July 13, at 9 pm ET.
