Discovery Communications Chooses Quantel for Stereo 3D Finishing

Discovery Communications, the nonfiction media company, has purchased two Quantel Pablo Neo 4K systems, a Max, and a Genetic Engineering shared workflow infrastructure.

“Discovery is internationally recognized as the benchmark for the highest quality programming and viewers expect the same from the new 3D channel,” said Ray Cross, CEO  of Quantel. “Discovery’s choice of Quantel technology reflects their commitment to quality and provides them with the very best Stereo 3D tools and workflow in the industry.”

The systems are housed in newly constructed suites at Discovery’s Post facility in Silver Spring, MD. Quantel’s Genetic Engineering enables work to be instantly shared between the suites, optimizing suite utilization and speeding program production.

“Discovery conducted extensive research into all the 3D postproduction offerings in the marketplace to determine the best product available to meet our high standards of quality,” said Brinton Miller, vice president, engineering for Discovery. “It was Pablo’s superior Stereo3D workflow which informed Discovery’s choice of Quantel.  Key differentiators were Pablo’s complete finishing toolset, ability to handle most file formats, interactive operation at full resolution and advanced Stereo 3D tools.”
