Nevion to Showcase Newly Available Video Transport systems at SET Broadcast & Cable 2011 and BIRTV 2011

Nevion, a provider of managed video services for broadcasters, service providers, and government entities worldwide, will be showcasing a range of newly available systems at SET Broadcast & Cable 2011 in Brazil (booth #E-2, Imigrantes Exhibition Center) on Aug. 23-25 and BIRTV in China (booth #8A27, China International Exhibition Center) on Aug. 24-27. These include systems that move broadcasters and service providers beyond video transport to fully managed and controlled video networking.

The newly launched VideoIPath video services management platform delivers control, monitoring, and management functions such as connection management, provisioning, analytics, security, protection, scheduling, network inventory, and performance management from an easy-to-use Web-based interface. Whether managing a service provider’s video-over-IP services or a broadcaster’s fully redundant optical network, VideoIPath ensures that stringent quality requirements for contribution-quality transport are maintained.

With the CP-TOUCH-1U, Nevion introduces an innovative, easy-to-use touch-screen control panel for control and monitoring across the Flashlink and VikinX product lines. The panel is designed for comprehensive control of signal processing, distribution, and router control, all from one source, facilitating control of the entire signal flow in master control, studio, outside broadcast, head-end, or other applications.

The next evolution of Nevion’s Multicon GYDA will also debut at BIRTV. MultiCon 3.5 — an advanced element manager for Flashlink solutions — offers enhanced security and improved support for large systems. Multicon is increasingly important for configuration of the latest Flashlink modules for such functions as video format conversion and audio embedding.

New Flashlink optical signal processing solutions include the AV-3G-XMUX for simultaneous embedding and de-embedding of eight AES3 stereo digital audio channels into digital 3G-, HD-, or SD-SDI. Configurable as an optical transmitter and receiver for short haul, CWDM, or DWDM, it enables users to copy or move audio groups without additional delay, access eight AES3 ports that can be individually configured as inputs or outputs, generate video and audio signals, and embed and transport asynchronous serial data.

A series of new 3G-SDI multi bit-rate distribution amplifiers provides high-performance media distribution for signal formats from 19.4Mbps in studio and broadcast applications. The DA Flashlink series is configurable for cable equalizing and reclocking of DVB-ASI, SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI signal formats, and as a 1 x 8/6 distribution amplifier. A passive relay bypass function included with several backplane board versions enables full redundancy in case of main or card failure.

Nevion’s up/down/cross converter — the Flashlink UDC-HD-XMUX4 — provides broadcast-quality format conversion with a motion adaptive de-interlacer, full support for active format description (AFD), and built-in frame synchronizer with de-glitcher, and now also supports closed captions.

Nevion’s FCS range of in-service monitoring solutions enables customers to identify quality issues along the transport path and proactively correct problems before they affect services. The new FCS250-PLUS is a compact, cost-effective, standards-based system for monitoring and assessing the integrity of up to four DVB-ASI or HD/SD-SDI signals or 256 video-over-IP streams, making it a complete solution for all video-monitoring needs.

Also new at BIRTV, the FCS250-IP offers the highest capacity non-intrusive monitoring of video-over-IP with continuous remote diagnostics. Designed to monitor and assess the integrity of professional digital video broadcast transmissions over IP networks, a single FCS250-IP unit can simultaneously monitor up to 256 transport streams at Gigabit Ethernet wire-speed.

Nevion also offers module-level monitoring solutions for SDI and ASI, the FCS250-SDI and FCS250-TS. For larger installations, Nevion offers the FCS1000-PLUS, a one rack-unit device capable of monitoring up to 16 channels using combinations of IP, SDI, and ASI.

Nevion’s element management solution for the Ventura product line — the Advanced Element Management System (AEMS) — has been upgraded. AEMS 2.0 features a user-friendly interface for configuration of modules with a large number of parameters, enhanced support for SNMP, and new security and maintenance functionality.

The Ventura VS901 JPEG 2000 compression series now compresses 3G as well as HD-SDI/SD-SDI with no blocking, tiling, or motion dependence. Extremely low latency and high visual quality meet the exacting demands of interactive, live event or any delay-sensitive applications, guaranteeing quality with absolute minimal degradation through multiple encode/decode cycles. The new module features 1.5G mathematically lossless compression, with compressed video rates up to 600Mbps. Meanwhile, the new Ventura VS901-AIED-GE-LX module can map compressed video to Gigabit Ethernet or ASI on the same Ventura module.

Additions and upgrades to Ventura’s signal processing solutions include the Ventura VS811, which now features a direct Ethernet data connection in addition to multiplexing a mix of signals over OC-48c/STM-16 network infrastructures, providing greater flexibility in mixed-protocol environments. The Ventura VS251-3G-JM-SFP, a new single-channel version of Nevion’s multi-format transmitter/receiver/transceiver, and the Ventura VS662-ADC-SFP, a new attractively priced analog-to-digital converter will also be available.
