ESPN’s BCS Countdown Returns with Renewed Focus on Touchscreen, Twitter

ESPN’s weekly BCS Countdown Presented by Allstate will return Sundays at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN and 9 p.m. on ESPNU starting Sunday, Oct. 9 – a week out from the first BCS Standings compilation of the season. The nine-week show will reveal the BCS Standings first each week and will deploy a variety of analysts and technologies to provide context about each team’s position.

The final standings will be revealed on December 4, determining which teams will appear in the five BCS bowl games.

Hosted by Rece Davis, BCS Countdown will feature a variety of analysts each week, including Kirk Herbstreit, Craig James, Rod Gilmore, Mark May, Urban Meyer, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Robert Smith to break down teams’ standings via the show’s touchscreen technology and to offer their picks for best in the nation.

Additionally, BCS expert Brad Edwards will offer his bowl projections each week on set via touchscreen to illustrate all potential matchups for each of the 35 existing bowl games. New this year, fans can submit their questions via Twitter using the hashtag #BCS for answer live on air.

“We realize fans will look to us each week for the BCS Standings and analysis of what it all means for their teams’ bowl hopes,” says Michael Fountain, senior coordinating producer, ESPN. “BCS Countdown uses the strength of our college football coverage – the best analysts in the business – to break it down for them.”

ESPN.com will have full coverage every Sunday and Monday on the release of the BCS Standings. Each Sunday, ESPN.com will post the complete BCS standings with several of its bloggers weighing in. On Mondays, ESPN.com will host the BCS Journey – an interactive chat of BCS Standings and more, as well as the BCS Minute – a video featuring Edwards’ take on the weekly announcement. In addition, ESPN Insider members can read an in-depth BCS breakdown by Edwards.
