Campus Clips: ESPN Expands Lacrosse Schedule; Navy Reportedly Headed to Big East

ESPN released its 2012 college lacrosse schedule and it included expanded coverage across ESPN, ESPNU and ESPN3. The schedule also features the addition of the ACC men’s and women’s and Big East men’s championships. The schedule includes 49 total games – featuring 39 regular-season matchups, 37 men’s and two women’s games – plus the crowing of six conference champions on ESPNU and ESPN3. Coverage begins with No. 4 Johns Hopkins hosting Towson on Friday, Feb. 17, at noon on ESPNU…

…According to a report of, Navy will join the Big East as a football-only member beginning in 2015. It will be the Academy’s first football conference affiliation, spending the first 130 years as an independent. Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said it was unlikely Navy could solve a myriad of its scheduling problems and television contracts in time to accompany the five new schools (Boise State, San Diego State, UCF, Houston, SMU) joining the Big East in 2015. Navy has games scheduled through 2017 and television contracts with CBS College Sports and CBS Sports (Navy-Army game) through 2018…

…The ACC will have 43 baseball games televised either nationally or regionally this season. The conference had already released its ACC Monday package for ESPNU but added additional contests that will be carried on ESPN3 as well as on RSNs such as Fox Sports South, Sun Sports, Comcast Sports Atlantic and NESN…

…The Big South Conference has added Longwood University as a full member effective with the 2012-13 academic year, it was announced today by the Conference’s Council of Chief Executive Officers.  Longwood’s addition increases the Big South membership to 12 institutions for the first time in League history.
