Campus Clips: Thought Equity Extends Licensing Deal with NCAA; The Mtn. Celebrates Black History Month

Thought Equity Motion, a provider of cloud-based video management and licensing services, has extended its exclusive licensing contract with the NCAA. In addition to licensing NCAA Championship video, Thought Equity Motion now has the rights to license photographs and radio calls from the NCAA’s 89 Championships across 23 sports and all three division levels. The photographs capture an array of memorable NCAA championship moments ranging from action shots, celebrations, and trophy ceremonies to fans, mascots, and cheerleaders.

“Thought Equity Motion is now the sole source to license a full-range of ‘non-live’ NCAA media, including fully-produced games, clips, photos and radio calls,” said Greg Weitekamp, NCAA director of championships and alliances, media services.  “We are continuously working to open up the excitement and history of the NCAA to our fans, member institutions and partners. Thought Equity Motion’s T3 Platform and Licensing Services have enabled a new level of access to the NCAA digital library and we’re looking forward to expanding these comprehensive digital content offerings to include photographs and radio calls around March Madness…”

…The Mtn. – Mountain West Network is scheduled to honor Black History Month later this week. The Mtn. Celebrates Black History Month in a 30-minute show dedicated to sharing the stories, challenges and contributions of African-American coaches and athletes in the Mountain West. Premiering Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. MT, the show is hosted by The Mtn. network anchor Marius Payton and features four inspiring stories. First, reporter Molly Sullivan shares the history of UNLV basketball and how the struggles from the past impact current Rebels and college basketball overall. Next, host Marius Payton talks with prominent MW and NCAA coaches and athletes from the “majority perspective” after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination. Then, Jenny Cavnar takes viewers into the life of San Diego State women’s volleyball coach Dietre Collins-Parker, who was one of the first African-American Olympic volleyball players. Finally, Curt Jimerson shares his story as the first black basketball player at the University of Wyoming in 1960, recounting his struggles as a black athlete on a white campus. The Mtn. will also feature six vignettes on other prominent African-American coaches and athletes as well as other feature stories running in various shows throughout February…

…Further Big 12 expansion was discussed among the conference expansion committee last week and it appears the league is content to stand pat at 10 teams. In an exclusive interview with West Virginia Illustrated, interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said further Big 12 expansion beyond that of TCU and West Virginia is unlikely in the near future. “The Board of Directors at the time West Virginia was admitted to the Big 12 asked the expansion committee to continue to monitor the landscape of college athletics,” Neinas stated. “We are currently at ten and very comfortable with ten…”

…Fox Sports Southwest will broadcast a Lone Star Conference highlights show and stream games live over the Internet. The first highlights show is set to air during the week of Feb. 20. As part of the one-year agreement, 16 LSC games, including basketball, baseball, volleyball and football, will be streamed on foxsportswouthwest.com…
