Spectra Logic Named A Top Info Management and Storage Vendor

Spectra Logic has been named a Top Information Management and Storage Vendor by Data Mobility Group, for its use of US-based manufacturing to deliver its competitive, innovative and high quality tape-based robotic data storage libraries.

“We selected Spectra Logic as a Top Information Management and Storage Vendor of 2012 not because of its top notch management team or history of industry-first innovations in storage but because the company has strategically chosen to keep the bulk of its design, sourcing, manufacturing and testing right here in the United States,” said Joseph Martins, managing director and lead analyst, Data Mobility Group. “Only companies with savvy leadership, high-value products, lean processes and a strong sense of national identity seem willing and able to run their operations here at home.”

Spectra Logic designs and builds almost all of its tape-based data backup and archive storage libraries —including the T120, T200, T380, T680, T950, and its scalable T-Finity—in Boulder, CO, and excluding the tape media and tape drive added components, an estimated 90 percent of its robotic storage libraries are produced in the U.S.  For example, Spectra’s steel and aluminum parts are made in Denver, CO, and at other area shops, and the plastics and composites used in its industry-leading products are molded by companies in Longmont, CO, and Texas.

“We admire and respect Spectra Logic’s manufacturing strategy. ‘Owned and Operated in America’ sends a powerful message to a great many consumers who care about how and where the products they purchase are made – and can be a worthy consideration in purchasing decisions,” added Martins.

Tape libraries are some of the most advanced and finely tuned hardware assemblies in a modern data center and are typically installed and used for five to ten years or longer. Maintaining a very high level of quality control for each individual part, sub-assembly and final product is key to ensuring reliable operations in 24/7 long-life, high-performance environments.

“Spectra Logic is able to reap tremendous advantages for our customers and community by manufacturing locally,” said Matt Starr, chief technology officer at Spectra Logic. “We are able to meet the needs of our customers by ensuring the highest quality design, assembly and quality control testing. Plus, we are able to reduce lead times so that our highly configurable storage solutions are delivered to customers in a timely manner and with the exact interfaces, throughput, capacity and software options they need.  And importantly, our local manufacturing creates significant skilled job opportunities in Colorado and throughout the United States.”

Spectra Logic offers a complete line of tape-based storage solutions from its entry-level T50e, mid-range T120, T200, T380 and T680, and enterprise scale T950 and T-Finity tape libraries. Powered by Spectra Logic’s unified management software, BlueScale 12, these storage solutions provide industry-leading performance, lifecycle management, and integration capabilities.
