NAB 2012: Harris Intros New Graphics, Management Systems and Boost Selenio Platform

Harris Corp. will introduce two systems for demanding live broadcast graphics for on-air broadcast and other video productions, as well as

The new Inscriber G8 and TitleOne AE real-time graphics production systems share a design philosophy that leverages next-generation hardware platforms for advanced graphics processing and increased storage performance — maximizing ease of use and operational efficiency.  Both support proven, mature graphics production workflows for off-line and on-air graphics creation, graphics template and database management, and automation control.

“Live graphics have become essential to differentiating TV shows and broadcast networks, as well as enticing and informing viewers,” said Harris Morris, president, Harris Broadcast Communications.  “By employing powerful, next-generation hardware platforms and cutting-edge graphics software, these systems boost creativity and productivity while giving users the freedom to create innovative new looks and effects that enhance the viewer experience.”

Inscriber G8
Inscriber G8 is built for high-end graphics creation today and well into the future, providing uncompressed imagery, and unprecedented graphics and animation capabilities.  It offers real-time creation and execution of the high-caliber, complex 3D graphics and animations that today’s live news, sports, and special events demand.

Inscriber G8 uses an Intel Xeon E5 processor and NVIDIA Quadro 4000 professional graphics processing unit (GPU) to significantly reduce channel hardware density for a greatly reduced footprint (2RU), lower power consumption, and improved performance and clip playback scalability.

Inscriber TitleOne AE
Now shipping, the Inscriber TitleOne AE live graphics system shares many of Inscriber G8’s sophisticated graphics creation features and real-time single-channel HD/SD or SD-only 2D-in-3D graphics.  TitleOne AE offers excellent price performance for a wide range of applications, with capabilities that exceed those found in its price category.  It improves on the previous-generation of TitleOne Inscriber graphics systems by adding an enhanced CPU (central processing unit) and an NVIDIA Quadro 600 professional GPU for maximum flexibility and performance.

Selenio
Harris will also showcase new features for its Selenio media convergence platform to help broadcasters reduce infrastructure and costs while strengthening operations.

Customers worldwide benefit from its ease of use and high-density, integrated and flexible design — with the freedom to mix and match applications in a single platform. Selenio is experiencing solid sales momentum one year after its debut.

Selenio, with its unique hybrid of digital baseband video processing, compression and IP capabilities, creates new possibilities for broadcasters, new media companies and others seeking to simplify and modernize their facility operations. Its impact crosses the globe with customer installations in all regions, including Zeonbud in the Ukraine, Capitol Broadcasting’s WJZY-TV in the U.S., NDTV in India, Sky News Arabia in the Middle East, Qingdao TV in China, AsiaSat in Hong Kong, and both Anhanguera Educacional and RBS in Brazil.

New features to be introduced at NAB include the Selenio MDX2 multiplexer module to reduce video headend infrastructure for digital TV (DTV) broadcasters. An industry first, the MDX2 has a built-in DVB-T2 gateway that can combine up to eight physical layer pipes within a single output stream — enabling delivery of multiple tiers of digital services. The MDX2 also features a built-in single-network frequency adaptation for signal distribution across large over-the-air DTV networks — ideal for DVB-T/T2 and ISDB-Tb standards.

Harris also will introduce a new video expansion module to Selenio to integrate more functionality — eliminating the number of “downstream” devices in the facility infrastructure. The expansion module adds real estate for device integration, supporting more applications within the Selenio frame.

HView SX Pro and Harris QuiC
Harris is introducing HView SX Pro, a high-density, scalable multi-display management system for live production, outside broadcast, and other video/audio processing needs.  The HView SX Pro reduces space, power, and complexity while offering excellent picture quality and intelligent, flexible control options.

The HView SX Pro offers low-latency processing and enhances image quality through Harris MicroFine scaling technology.  Its high-density design accommodates more sources and outputs in fewer rack units to reduce system and installation costs.  Harris customers can use the HView SX Pro as a standalone solution or integrated within Harris Platinum routers.

Also new is Harris QuiC software, designed to minimize workloads for video server operators in TV stations and other media operations.  Customers using QuiC software tools to analyze files ingested into video servers can achieve results faster through automated processes.

The QuiC software family includes three tools that provide fast, effective, and actionable results without false positives — allowing users to more effectively share, distribute, and monetize media assets across many workflows and delivery platforms.  QuiC Pro and QuiC Express offer ready-to-go test templates for file-based analysis in operations of any size, while QuiC View is a professional-grade viewer for close inspection of file-based assets.
