GlobeCast To Show New OTT Platform at The Cable Show 2012

GlobeCast will be at The Cable Show 2012 to discuss distribution outlets for top-tier content from around the globe to which it has rights. Additionally, the company will demonstrate its new over-the-top (OTT) platform, My GlobeTV. MyGlobeTV is a B-2-C television bouquet that brings international and genre-based audiovisual content directly to subscribers.

With MyGlobeTV, subscribers are able to enjoy their favorite channels using their existing broadband connections. For broadcasters, MyGlobeTV offers a total end-to-end solution that includes a robust content ingestion, delivery, and management system; signal transportation and encoding; multiplatform distribution; marketing; retail distribution; and customer care.

“GlobeCast is a leading provider of international content worldwide, and we’re pleased to showcase our newest platform, MyGlobeTV, at the upcoming Cable Show in Boston,” said Emma Brackett, VP of consumer products and services at GlobeCast. “This platform offers content providers a total, end-to-end OTT solution to facilitate new revenue streams and expand their viewer base by reaching markets that are not already accessed via Direct-to-Home satellite.”

The initial commercial launch of the MyGlobeTV service in the United States is scheduled for July 1. At launch, content will be available on connected TVs via the MyGlobeTV set-top box. The deployment of a MyGlobeTV app will follow soon after to enable anytime, anywhere viewing on any connected device.

MyGlobeTV is an OTT offering that utilizes encrypted Internet Protocol (IP) delivery of television and radio content directly to the subscriber’s home. In contrast to WorldTV, GlobeCast’s Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite offering, all MyGlobeTV subscribers need is a broadband Internet connection and an easy plug-and-play MyGlobeTV set-top box; no satellite dish is required.

The box itself is a Netgem hybrid DVR set-top box that supports adaptive streaming and includes a 320GB hard drive with 450 hours of DVR capacity. The service supports video on demand, includes a Facebook application allowing viewers to navigate their accounts, and will provide an antenna to enable local channel viewing.
