Campus Clips: SNY Signs Rights Deal for UConn Women’s Hoops; Pac-12 Network Signs Lott, Neuheisel, Sanders to On-Air Team

Regional sports network SNY has signed a four-year rights deal with the University of Connecticut for TV rights to the women’s program. Tipping with the 2012-13 school year, the RSN, tree cable home to MLB’s New York Mets, will air 17 of the basketball team’s games, plus assorted other shoulder programming that will result in some hours of coverage annually. The deal, carrying a rights fee of $4.55 million over its term, pending finalization of an executed contract between the parties, will end the UConn women’s 18-year run on Connecticut Public Television, which paid $900,000 per year under the contract that expired with the past season that saw the Lady Huskies reach the national semifinals. The team has won seven NCAA titles…

…The Pac-12 Networks have taken the first step in building its on air team, signing Ronnie Lott, Rick Neuheisel and Summer Sanders as on air personalities and the initial faces of the Pac-12 Networks…

…The NCAA announced that for the first time, the Division II and Division III titles will be awarded in the same city and over the same weekend as the culmination to the Division I tournament. Both the Division II and Division III champions will be crowned on Sunday, April 7, with the tentative site being Philips Arena. Next season’s men’s Division I national semifinals are April 6 at the Georgia Dome, as is the national championship game on April 8…

…Patriot League All-Access will give fans a chance to follow the action from both the conference’s baseball and softball tournaments, this weekend. Audio coverage will be provided from the Patriot League Softball Tournament held at Lehigh’s Kaufman Field from Thursday-Saturday, while the baseball semifinal series featuring Lafayette at Army and Navy at Holy Cross on Saturday and Sunday can be seen through live video streaming on All-Access. The monthly rate will also cover next weekend’s Patriot League Baseball Championship series…

…Former Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt, who coached her team last season despite being diagnosed last summer with early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type, will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2012 ESPYs. Summitt, 59, will be presented with the award at ESPN’s annual show, set for 9 p.m. ET on July 11…

…The George Washington University Department of Athletics and Recreation announced that it has reached an agreement with IMG College, a division of IMG Worldwide, to market and sell corporate sponsorships on its behalf…

…The Ivy League has decided not to have postseason tournaments to determine its men’s and women’s basketball champions. The league athletic directors agreed at their annual meeting not to move forward with proposals for postseason tournaments.
