Telecast Fiber Systems To Unveil New Products at InfoComm 2012

Telecast Fiber Systems, known for its portable and fixed fiber optic systems for television broadcast production, will showcase several new and existing products at InfoComm 2012.

Terrapin

Terrapin TR-D6 3Gb/s HD/SDI Video Transceiver and Distribution Amplifier
The new Terrapin TR-D6 is a compact bidirectional throwdown device that features both a fiber optic (ST) input and a copper (BNC) input, as well as a ST output and six BNC outputs. A single push-button operation makes it easy to switch between four modes, permitting the Terrapin TR-D6 to act as an HD/SDI distribution amplifier with six BNC outputs and a fiber optic output, a fiber optic transceiver with six BNC outputs of the received signal or the local copper signal, or as an optical repeater with a six-output BNC tap.

New Members of Thor Fiber Optic Extender Family
Telecast will exhibit several new members of its Thor family of fiber optic extenders for broadcasting, government, and professional A/V applications. The Thor DE is an optical DVI extender consisting of transmitter and receiver modules that use CWDM optical multiplexing to transmit four channels of WUXGA (1920×1200) graphic signals with a 60Hz refresh rate over a single fiber. The companion Thor DE Throwdown DVI and Audio Extender drives uncompressed WUXGA (1920×1200) 60Hz DVI and audio signals up to 2 kilometers (single-mode) or 500 meters (multi-mode) over a duplex LC fiber.

The Thor DA Throwdown HDMI Distribution Amplifier allows one HDMI (TMDS) single-link digital video signal to be split into multiple digital displays, and it features a built-in amplification function that enables HDMI signal distribution without signal loss. Finally, the Thor MR 8X8 HDMI and DVI Matrix Routers, new additions to the Thor-S KVM switcher product line, enable users to make cross-switches between up to eight DVI or HDMI sources  (computers/servers) and eight displays located away from the main sources.

CopperHead Pro — Now Featuring a Versatile Return Video Path
The CopperHead Pro, Telecast’s latest camera-mountable fiber optic transceiver system, is now shipping with a new analog return video path. The return video path can be used for return “program video” or for a genlock signal. The most affordable and economical CopperHead ever, the CopperHead Pro now features all of the signal paths needed for live, big-screen image magnification (I-MAG) applications in houses of worship, music venues, and corporate events.

In addition, the CopperHead Pro can now be used in multicamera, studio-style applications. The signals transported by the system include the camera’s pristine, uncompressed HD/SDI signal, along with the new analog return path, as well as camera control and intercom. The CopperHead Pro offers a versatile and affordable solution that leverages the light weight, high reliability, and superior quality of fiber cable for producing high-quality HD big-screen or multicamera productions.

SHED/HDX Support for Hitachi SK-HD1000 Camera
Telecast’s SHED (SMPTE hybrid elimination device) and HDX units now provide support for the Hitachi SK-HD1000 camera. The SHED adapters enable production crews using SMPTE fiber-ready Hitachi cameras to replace hybrid optical fiber/copper cabling with low-cost single-mode fiber, and the HDX units provide the ability to power the cameras remotely. The Hitachi SK-HD1000 is the latest high-end HD camera to be supported by the SHED/HDX combination, which enables long-distance communications between the camera and base station via two single-mode fibers. The SHED-HDX family reduces the bulk and expense associated with hybrid cabling and extends the distance capabilities of the camera.

Rattler 3G Miniature Transmitter/Receiver Modules
Telecast Fiber System’s patent-pending Rattler 3Gbps HD/SDI transmitter and receiver modules are only 3 inches long. The Rattler 3G devices offer a highly flexible I/O solution for the transport of HD/SDI video signals over fiber optics or coaxial cables through the broadcast industry’s most widely used fiber optic transmitters and receivers. Based on the new TeleCube MMI technology, the miniature serial digital transmission modules can be configured using red transmitter cubes and blue receiver cubes, which act as either fiber optic (ST) or 75 ohm coaxial (BNC) inputs or outputs.

By plugging different configurations of cubes together, broadcasters can create a wide range of conversion devices. For example, broadcasters can quickly configure a fiber transmitter or receiver, an inline coaxial equalizer, a fiber-to-fiber repeater, an optical wavelength shifter, a fiber optic mode converter, or a CWDM transport link. TeleCubes are available in several optical power levels and 16 CWDM wavelengths. The Rattler 3G gives broadcasters the power to create exactly what they need and enables them to adjust it easily when their needs change.
