Collegiate Athletics Internet & Digital Association To Hold First Events

This summer, the Collegiate Athletics Internet & Digital Association (CAIDA) will hold its first official events at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Convention in Dallas. CAIDA will function as the first organization for college athletics digital media professionals.

CAIDA was created to serve a changing collegiate landscape filled with new ways of communicating with fans and other constituents. There will be an annual CAIDA convention, as well as year-round activities, webinars, and more. The organization’s goal is to provide support and professional development for those who work with digital media at all levels of collegiate athletics.

“This is something I personally feel strongly about,” said Kansas State Athletics Director of Internet Services and CAIDA Planning Committee Chairman Dave Smoller.  “As the digital media field expands there is a critical need for a place where all of us can find support, networking opportunities and continuing education.”

The organization expects to have members with backgrounds in social media, marketing, video, sports information, and other areas. It will also emphasize the importance of serving members from all levels of collegiate athletics.

“Many of us in this field are scattered in different areas of athletic departments — some in marketing, some in sports info, some in multimedia,” said Smoller. “There isn’t really any common bond between us all, no place to call home. We hope CAIDA will provide that.”

The organization is currently working to build up its list of prospective members and has launched www.JoinCAIDA.com to help spread the word.

CAIDA will be represented at the 2012 College Sports Video Summit (CSVS) in Atlanta as well as the 2012 NACDA national convention in Dallas. Later in June, CAIDA will be hosting a reception on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in the Emerald Room of the Hilton Anatole Hotel at the NACDA conference in Dallas.  This informal reception will be open from 2:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CT.  Anyone interested in the organization is invited to attend to meet CAIDA’s planning committee and other future members of our organization.
