EVS Taps Vitec Videocom Vet Joop Janssen as CEO, Managing Director

EVS Broadcast Equipment has appointed Joop Janssen managing director and CEO.

Janssen has more than 25 years of experience in the broadcast-video, professional-audio, and telecommunications-equipment industries. He recently served as chief executive of the Vitec Videocom division on the Executive Board of the Vitec Group. During his nine years with Vitec Videocom, he was the architect to its significant profitable growth and brand expansion.

“I’m thrilled to join the EVS team,” says Janssen. “EVS is a very strong global brand in the expanding high-quality digital video production market. Based on close customer engagement, excellent service, world’s first innovations, and robust technologies, they are poised for further attractive growth.”

Prior to that, he was VP/GM of Phillips Broadcast (formerly BTS) North America, where he was instrumental in its successful divestment to Thomson Multimedia and the subsequent acquisition of  Grass Valley Group. He has held senior- and executive-management positions at Philips Electronics Digital Networks in France and Philips Business Electronics in the Netherlands. Janssen, 52, holds a master’s in electronic engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology.

“This is a very important step in the further growth of the company,” says Pierre Rion, chairman of the Board of Directors of EVS. “EVS will certainly benefit from his experience of managing different companies in different cultures, his deep knowledge of the broadcast industry, and his strong personality. We are really keen to have Joop on board with us.”

Originally from the Heerlen-Maastricht region of the Netherlands, Janssen is currently based in the UK. He will start officially at EVS on Sept. 3 and will relocate to Belgium with his family in due course. He will formally become managing director after an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to be held at the end of August.
