Campus Clips: UT Advertising Students Create New Longhorn Network Campaign; CAA to Create Digital Network with NBC Sports Group

Longhorn Network launched a new brand campaign created in collaboration with students at The University of Texas College of Communication. UT Advertising students worked on every aspect of the creative process and conceived the new “Watch What You Love” theme. In one of the first spots, “Little Longhorn,” a father shares a legendary Longhorn bedtime story with his young daughter. In another spot, “Homesick,” a Texas grad stares into the New York skyline before replacing an iconic landmark with a symbol of home (seen above). Additional commercials are expected to be released in the coming weeks as part of the “Watch What You Love” campaign…

…Colonial Athletic Association presidents green-lighted the league office’s plan to create a new digital network, to be built and hosted by the NBC Sports Group. The group also discussed adjusting the revenue-sharing model to further reward the teams that qualify for the NCAA Tournament but did not announce any specifics. The conference also raised its exit fee to $1 million in the wake of the departures of Old Dominion and Virginia Commonwealth…

…In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX, the NCAA has developed a documentary, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, airing on ESPN2 on June 23 at noon as part of the network’s celebration of the milestone. The documentary, Sporting Chance, will feature commentary from Title IX trailblazers, such as former NCAA President Judy Sweet, Christine Grant, and former U.S. senator Birch Bayh who introduced the law after inspiration from his first wife, Marvella. Other women, such as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former student-athlete and tennis legend Billie Jean King, Olympic gold medalists Julie Foudy, Donna deVarona and Nancy Hogshead-Makar and sports columnist Christine Brennan share the personal impact Title IX had on their lives. June 23 marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX—a law that paved the way for equity in educational and athletic opportunity…

The Big East hired Russell Reynolds Associates for the conference’s search for a new commissioner, according to ESPN. The Big East reportedly hopes to have a new commissioner by Sept. 1, when the league starts its 60-day negotiation window with ESPN on a new media rights deal. The league is also suing one-time potential member TCU for $5 million, claiming that the school “materially breached” an obligation to pay the conference for breaking the conference…

…The Southland Conference will add two affiliate member institutions – Houston Baptist University and the University of New Orleans – in 2012-13…

…The University of South Dakota will launch a new athletic website, www.GoYotes.com. The Coyotes partnered with CBSSports.com earlier this spring to house their new website and it’s scheduled to debut today…

…The Eastern Michigan University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Pakmode Media + Marketing signed a three-year extension of their partnership agreement

…Kennesaw State University’s athletic department unveiled a new logo.
