Dell Data Center Solutions Delivers Competitive Edge

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome Dell Data Center Solutions as a corporate sponsor. The custom-designed innovations that Dell DCS brings to some of the world’s largest cloud-computing providers are available to a wider range of organizations via the Dell PowerEdge C family of servers, Cloud and Big Data Solutions, and a broad portfolio of data-center services.

Competitive advantage is often achieved in small margins that translate to big wins, and, for Chip Ganassi Racing, the ability to quickly analyze interactions between driver, car, tires, and track is paramount.

“We use technology every day to gain a competitive advantage over other teams,” explains Chip Ganassi President Steve Lauletta. “Chip Ganassi has always believed in staying on the leading edge, so it’s really at the heart of our business. And nearly all of the technology we use comes from Dell.”

For rendering, ToonBox Entertainment selected Dell PowerEdge C6100 rack-mounted servers. “We chose the Dell PowerEdge C6100 because it offers a strong balance between budget and power,” says Systems Administrator Aaron Pearce. “The C6100 is actually four server nodes in one 2U chassis. Each server node has two six-core Intel Xeon processors, and they’re hyper-threaded, which means each one appears as two virtual processors to the operating system.”

Says CG Supervisor Andrew McPhillips, “We are putting incredible demands on the machines in our server farm. In this environment, the Dell PowerEdge C6100 servers have been fantastic. They run nonstop, 24/7, and they perform with flying colors. The C6100 makes a great render-farm machine because it’s fast, highly configurable, and incredibly robust.”

At this year’s Content Delivery Summit, Laurie Hutto-Hill, assistant VP/GM for telecommunications media and entertainment at Dell, said: “We are more than laptops. Yes, we have a fantastic laptop out right now, but … really the Dell story today is all about solutions, and solutions that are empowering our customers in a much more deep and meaningful way.”
