iStreamPlanet Relied on Adtec Decoding for ‘Go Live’ Solution at London Games

iStreamPlanet, a multi-platform managed broadcast solutions provider, utilized Adtec Digital’s decoding technology as part of their “Go Live” turnkey, live streaming solution for Olympics rights holding broadcasters at the London Games. iStreamPlanet provided the live streaming solution ultimately delivering 19 concurrent feeds covering 300 Olympic events, and delivering over 60 TBs of video traffic.

iStreamPlanet connected Adtec’s RD-60 IRDs to their HOS farm and their IP backbone.

“Once a particular antenna was routed to the receiver, we would use it to decode high definition video,” explains Khurram Siddiqui, VP and GM of iStreamPlanet Europe. “In this specific application we needed an MPEG 4 platform with 4:2:2 acquisition capabilities.  The RD-60 provided that very well.”

The RD-60 integrated receiver decoder (IRD) supports MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 platforms with 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 8 and 10-bit HD and SD decoding. The RD-60 decodes up to eight pairs of phase aligned stereo audio using the pervasive MPEG 1 Layer 2 CODEC with optional keyed support for Dolby AC3/5.1, HE-AAC, AAC-LC audio decoding. Support for integrated Dolby E decoding is forthcoming as well. Audio Pass-through support includes 2 pairs of PCM, DolbyE/2.0/5.1 with 16 or 20-bit precision.  The RD-60 includes redundant AC power supplies, enhanced control and monitoring via SNMP and browser with a built-in video and audio monitor thumbnail using HTML 5.0 technology. Adtec has also introduced its HUB iPad, iPhone, and Android monitoring tool as well.

RD-60 standard transport inputs include ASI and IP with multiple route unicast and multicast UDP/RTP supporting SMPTE 2022 FEC plus a new TCP Transport method. The standard featured DVBS/S2 tuner demodulator supports QPSK and 8PSK is available as an option. Two other RF options include the advanced model, which supports 16APSK and the premium model supporting 32APSK with a software-enhanced tuner that provides an extra dB of signal when using Newtec’s Clean Channel Technology (CCT).

According to Adtec Digital co-founder and SVP of sales Kevin Ancelin, Adtec is very focused on Tier One contribution applications.

“The RD-60 has been fine-tuned over many years to provide feature rich reliable decoding of transport from ASI, IP and RF interfaces. We are pleased that iStreamPlanet chose to leverage our products and expertise for their Olympic decoding requirements. Working with Khurram and Mio Babic, iStreamPlanet’s CEO, has been a pleasure and we look forward to supporting the build out of their extensive global streaming platform.”

Siddiqui adds: “So far, we’ve been very satisfied with the RD-60,” “It has performed well above the capabilities of other units in its class, and has been very reliable and stable in its acquisition capabilities.  Additionally, the interface was intuitive and displayed real-time data which was key for us.”

Adtec’s support team provided universal support to iStreamPlanet as well.

“Adtec’s support team has performed above and beyond what we’ve needed them to,” says Siddiqui. “This may seem intangible, but to us it’s been critical in discovering and solving problems we’ve encounter working with many different partners content.  They have also developed solutions that were unique to us, and this is very progressive.”

Adtec Digital will showcase the RD-60, EN-91P, RD-70 and EN-20 at IBC 2012 in stand 1.D01. Adtec partners and all media personnel are invited to stop by to learn more about Adtec’s compression solutions and other technologies provided by Adtec Digital.
