Everything’s still bigger in Texas when it comes to NFL video boards, but Tennessee Titans owners believe their new setup, installed this summer by ANC Sports, will be at least as impressive — if not even more so — than the record-setting scoreboard at Cowboys Stadium. The new video boards — one in each end zone — stand 157 feet wide and 54 feet high, just under the Cowboys’ boards that measure 160 feet wide by 72 high. Each display will feature 8,478 square feet of LED signage, becoming the largest end-zone video screens in the world. The video boards feature 16-millimeter surface mount pixel display to offer the sharpest display possible close to a 1080p picture…

…Economic-development officials in Virginia Beach revealed a plan Tuesday to build a $350 million arena and attract an NBA or NHL team to Virginia’s largest city. Virginia Beach officials said an 18,500-seat arena could be ready to house an NBA or NHL team by 2015. There has been speculation the city has targeted the NBA Sacramento Kings, but according to a Sacramento Bee report, no potential tenants have been named. The arena proposal is for a public-private partnership involving Virginia Beach and investors Comcast-Spectacor and Live Nation…

…Austin Peay State University officials have announced plans to build a new $16 million football stadium for the 2014 season. The new stadium, which will replace the iconic Governors Stadium on the main campus, received approval from the Tennessee Building Commission on Monday. It will have more seating than 10,000-seat Governors Stadium, which was called Municipal Stadium when it was built in 1946. Construction will begin with the demolition of the west side of Governors Stadium — the home side near the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center — after the 2013 football season ends. That side will be rebuilt, with the addition of skyboxes. The east side, or the visiting section, will have minimal renovations…

…The NHL will operate Glendale’s hockey arena for another month. The Glendale City Council on Monday directed staff to extend its arena management with the NHL for another 30 days, allowing Phoenix Coyotes suitor Greg Jamison more time to try to buy the hockey team, city attorney Craig Tindall said. The city’s agreement with the NHL had been set to expire later this week. The extension comes nearly four months after the city council approved a 20-year, $324 million deal with Jamison, the former San Jose Sharks executive who hopes to purchase the Coyotes. The city has twice pledged $25 million to the league to operate Jobing.com Arena and keep the team in Glendale…

…Daktronics has been selected to design, manufacture and install an integrated LED video, scoring and sound system for Alumni Hall at Providence College, home to women’s basketball and volleyball. Included in the project are two endwall video displays, each measuring more than 7 feet high by 13 feet wide. Both video displays will utilize Daktronics 10 millimeter line spacing and have pristine color and brightness from all viewing angles. Located adjacent to the video displays will be a digital LED scoreboard to keep fans engaged and informed during the game. Providence College will also add four sections of Daktronics popular LED scorer’s tables that can be displayed individually or connected together for one large display. These upgrades come as part of a complete overhaul of the facility which includes a new ceiling and seating arrangement in the upper and lower area of the arena…
