Harris Wins SET Award for Best ISDB-Tb Transmission and Reception Solution

Harris Broadcast Communications has received the SET Award 2012 in the category of “Best Solution for Transmission and/or Reception for ISDB-Tb,” the digital terrestrial TV standard for Brazil.  The annual award is given by SET — the Brazilian Society of Television Engineering — during the SET Broadcast & Cable Show, held this year from August 21-23 in São Paulo.  The event is the largest broadcast show in Latin America.

Harris won the award due to its ISDB-Tb solution for Brazilian broadcaster TV TEM, covering networking and transmission.  The project uses Harris Maxiva UAX UHF transmitters, which offer broadcasters an efficient, compact and modular solution for ISDB-Tb broadcasting.

The TV TEM solution was first installed at seven transmission sites and is being expanded to more than 42 cities.  The hybrid architecture, comprised of multi-frequency network (MFN) and single-frequency network (SFN) technology, enables signal contribution and distribution over terrestrial microwave; and distribution over satellite — an innovation for the Brazilian market.

TV TEM, a Rede Globo affiliate, is present in almost half of the municipalities of the state of São Paulo and has four generators in its network (Sorocaba, Itapetininga, Bauru and São José do Rio Preto).  TV TEM reaches 318 counties, with a population of approximately 8 million inhabitants.
