JVC Demos Next-Generation Handheld Camera at DV Expo

JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., will demonstrate its new GY-HM650 ProHD handheld mobile news camera at Digital Video Expo 2012 (Booth 101), which runs Sept. 19-20 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, Calif. The JVC booth will also showcase the ProHD camera line, as well as a variety of studio solutions and professional LCD monitors for studio, location, and public display applications.

“Digital Video Expo remains an important regional show for us. It provides an ideal platform for JVC to showcase our products to thousands of video professionals on the West Coast,” said Craig Yanagi, JVC national marketing and brand manager. “For many attendees, this will be their first chance to test our next-generation GY-HM650 WiFi-based mobile camcorder, which has built-in USB hosting capability, class-leading imaging, and is ideal for today’s file-based workflows.”

Available this winter, the new GY-HM650 is equipped with dual processors that enables it to produce full HD files on one SDHC or SDXC media card while simultaneously creating smaller, Web-friendly files (1/4 HD) on a second card. With built-in FTP and WiFi connectivity, the camera is able to deliver the footage file back to a station without a microwave or satellite connection.

Combined with three, 1/3-inch 1920×1080 12-bit CMOS sensors, a built-in Fujinon wide angle 23x optical zoom lens delivers superior low-light performance and excellent sensitivity (F11 at 2000 lux) for challenging shooting environments. The HD lens has a focal range of 29mm-667mm (35mm equivalent) and includes JVC’s auto-focus with face detection and an optical image stabilizer, as well as manual focus, servo zoom, and iris rings.

The lightweight GY-HM650 records HD or SD footage in multiple file formats, including native XDCAM EX™ (.MP4), Final Cut Pro™ (.MOV), and AVCHD. It also records .MXF files with rich descriptive metadata that is optimized for asset management. HD-SDI and HDMI outputs allow easy monitoring of HD footage.

Designed for versatility, the GY-HM650 features a 1.22 MP color viewfinder and color 3.5-inch LCD to handle run-and-gun and tripod-based stand-ups. Plus, the Pre Rec (retro cache) feature continuously records and stores up to 20 seconds of footage in cache memory to help prevent missed shots of breaking events. A built-in stereo microphone is standard, as well as two XLR inputs with phantom power and a shotgun mic holder, plus a headphone jack and separate input for a wireless mic receiver.
