SkyCam, CableCam Add Unique Perspective to Sports Broadcasting

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome SkyCam and CableCam as a mobile/integrator sponsor.

The SkyCam and CableCam systems center around a sophisticated, computer-controlled cable suspension system that supports, stabilizes, and allows for three-dimensional movement of a camera to capture overhead video of major events.  Putting the viewer right in the middle of an event, the use of aerial cameras has significantly changed the way sports and other entertainment programming are broadcasted both domestically and internationally by delivering angles and revealing perspectives that dramatically enhance the quality of coverage.

Although early versions of aerial camera systems were developed in the 1980s, SkyCam’s introduction to football started with the XFL in 2001.  The NFL first incorporated the technology in 2003 when ESPN added SkyCam to certain broadcasts and FOX did the same with CableCam.  In 2006, SkyCam and CableCam were jointly acquired and in subsequent years they were restructured into a service-oriented business with a focus on technology investment and cost efficiencies.  In September 2011, SkyCam and CableCam were consolidated into a shared headquarters in Fort Worth, TX.

“We continue to invest in both a technology and safety infrastructure to support large scale growth opportunities in the future,” says Nic Salomon, president of SkyCam and CableCam. “We are excited about the potential to provide new technologies and deliver increased value to sports leagues and broadcasters.”
