Campus Clips: Horizon League Upgrades HLN Mobile App; MSG Among Preliminary Round Sites of 2014, 2015 NCAA Tournament

The Horizon League, in partnership with WebStream Productions, has upgraded its 2012-13 version of its “Horizon League Network Live” mobile application. The Horizon League is the only NCAA Division I athletics conference in the country to offer its entire live video collection via a mobile application.Fans who purchased the app last year on their iOS devices will receive a free upgrade.

The HLN Live mobile app will include live HD streaming.

Fans downloading the app for the first time will also be able to do so for free. Horizon League basketball games will be streamed in HD this year. For the second straight year, the app allows fans to watch any game carried live on the Horizon League Network along with on-demand features and highlights during the 2012-13 athletics season.

Sixteen of the 18 Horizon League basketball programs will have non-conference home games available; while all Horizon League conference basketball games will be carried live both on HLN Live and HorizonLeague.com…

…Twenty-five preliminary round sites for the 2014 and 2015 Division I Men’s Basketball Championships, as well as the 2014 Division II and Division III Men’s Basketball Championships, have been selected to serve as hosts for the NCAA men’s basketball tournaments. The 25 cities hosting portions of the 76th and 77th  Division I Men’s Basketball Championship have combined to host nearly 1,000 tournament games in the event’s history, including Madison Square Garden in New York…

…NBC Sports Network has added the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic, two additional Atlantic 10 games and three new Colonial Athletic Association matchups to its 2012-13 telecast schedule, bringing its total to more than 60 college basketball games this season.

The inaugural Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic will tipoff on Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. ET, from the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, VA. The first game of the Classic will feature George Mason vs. Richmond. The late game at 5:30 p.m. ET will showcase Virginia and Old Dominion.

In addition to the six games featuring Atlantic 10 teams already on the 2012-13 college basketball schedule, NBC Sports Network has added two more. Charlotte will host Georgia Southern on Tuesday, November 13 at 9 p.m. ET, and St. Joes will host Harvard on Tuesday, November 20at 8 p.m. ET. Three CAA games have also been added to this year’s schedule; Drexel will host Illinois State on Thursday, November 15at 7 p.m. ET; William & Mary will host Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, November 21 at 7 p.m. ET; and James Madison will host George Washington on Wednesday, November 28 at 7 p.m. ET.

… Patriot League All-Access streamed The Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship from Washington, D.C. this past weekend. All-Access coverage is available for a monthly fee of $7.95. Viewers who purchase the subscription last weekend also will be able to watch the volleyball championship Nov. 17-18, along with viewing archived broadcasts of the women’s soccer and field hockey tournaments. The Patriot League All-Access multimedia player features expanded video navigation controls and advanced search functions to help you get the content you crave. An on-page video player interface is compatible with Adobe Flash-enabled web browsers and offers a full-screen mode. In addition to Patriot League Championship coverage, nearly all regular and postseason men and women’s basketball Patriot League games will be shown on All-Access beginning in January…

… Chicago State University Athletic Director Dan Schumacher announced last week that Chicago State and Lakeshore Public Television have entered into agreement to broadcast as many as six basketball games during the 2012-13 school year. The package features men’s basketball contests with DePaul (Dec. 5), Loyola-Chicago (Jan. 20) and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 26). The Chicago State women’s basketball team will be in front of the Lakeshore PTV cameras on Jan. 29 against Western Illinois. All four games will start at 7:05 p.m. CT. The final two broadcasts are dependent on the 2012 Great West Conference Tournament, which Chicago State is hosting March 14-16. If either the Chicago State men or women advance to the championship game on March 16, Lakeshore PTV will pick up the broadcasts. Lakeshore PTV reaches 3.5 million viewers throughout Northwest Indiana, Chicago and its surrounding suburbs.
