Campus Clips: Loaded Weekend Ahead for SUNY Oswego’s WTOP; Conference Realignment Rages Again

SUNY Oswego’s student-run WTOP Channel 10 is gearing up for a busy sports weekend on campus. The Lakers’ men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are all in action and broadcasts can be watched online for free. The No. 1-ranked Laker men’s ice hockey team (7-0-0, 6-0-0 SUNYAC) hosts Potsdam on Friday at 7 p.m. and seventh-ranked Plattsburgh on Saturday again at 7 p.m. In addition to streaming on Oswego State’s athletics website, the student-run live productions will be available locally on Time Warner Cable Channel 1027, which is available in the Syracuse, Binghamton, Utica, Watertown, and North Country areas. The women’s ice hockey team plays at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with both games available online and on Time Warner Cable Channel 1027. Men’s and women’s basketball teams open SUNYAC play against Plattsburgh and Potsdam. Friday’s games against the Cardinals are at 6 and 8 p.m., while Saturday’s games are at 2 and 4 p.m. All are available for live stream online. Swimming and diving competes at the three-day Fredonia Invitational with live web streaming available for Saturday and Sunday’s events…

…Conference realignment has revved up again following the announcements last week of Rutgers and Maryland jumping for the Big Ten. This week, East Carolina and Tulane agreed to join the Big East, Louisville shifts to the ACC, Middle Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic join Conference USA, the University of Denver will move to The Summit League, and Grand Canyon University jumped from D-II to the WAC…

…North of the border, a group of students at Ryerson University in Toronto have taken sports broadcasting into their own hands. For their fourth-year practicum project, the team of seven has created a mobile-optimized website at ryersonhockeymobile.com featuring stats and info for the Ryerson Rams hockey team, and, more importantly, live broadcasts of three full games that people can watch on their phones. According to the Toronto Star, the final two broadcasts air today and tomorrow…

…The University of Oregon Athletic Department re-designed its website. One major new feature of the website is the athletic department’s Quack Cave. The stream of social media news keeps tabs on all official Oregon Twitters, including its sports teams, cheerleaders, administrators and other personnel. Selected student-athletes are also included in the feed.
