As part of a project that included a massive video upgrade, acoustical consultant Anthony James Partners joined A/V integration firm Daktronics to bring sound reinforcement in line with the Nationwide Arena amenities using efficient, point-source Danley Sound Labs loudspeakers and subwoofers. The design called for eight primary clusters distributed equally around the arena. Each cluster contains two Danley SH-96 full-range loudspeakers hard-packed side-by-side and a Danley TH-118 subwoofer. Eight wide-dispersion Danley SM-100 loudspeakers populate a delay ring that provides coverage for Nationwide Arena’s highest tier. Two additional SH-96s cover the ice. Daktronics installed all of the clusters on chain motors for easy servicing and, in the case of those clusters whose positions would interfere with musical acts, easy hoisting. Nationwide Arena’s new high-definition sound reinforcement system complements a new high-definition video system. Its showpiece is a new 43,000 lb. scoreboard that uses nearly sixteen million LEDs to display high-definition video on four 25-foot by 15.5-foot screens…

…Plans for a stadium on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus have moved a giant step closer to reality. The Nevada Board of Regents unanimously voted Friday in favor of a campus master plan that includes the 60,000-seat stadium. The action paves the way for UNLV and its private partner Majestic Realty Co. to move ahead with plans to build the stadium. According to a study released Friday, the stadium could pump $393 million a year into the Las Vegas economy, and draw at least 15 new, major events to the city. In addition to luring outside events such as an NFL exhibition game or the Electric Daisy Carnival, the stadium also would replace aging Sam Boyd Stadium as the site for UNLV football games…

…Panasonic Eco Solutions North America has signed a deal with Lighthouse Technologies to be the sole distributor of Lighthouse LED video display technology in the United States and Canada. The partnership should strengthen business for both overseas firms as they compete for deals to develop scoreboards for arenas and stadiums in North America, officials with Panasonic and Lighthouse say. Scoreboard integrators such as TS Sports, a company that has worked directly with Lighthouse in the past, would buy the firm’s technology through Panasonic, said Jim Doyle, president of Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. The deal expands a relationship between Panasonic and Lighthouse and creates consolidation in a small but fragmented industry…
