TODAY ONLY: Art of Flight 3D (Dec. 7, 2012) (2D video)

The Art of Flight 3D screens in theaters nationwide December 7 at 7:00pm

The following, from Melissa Larsen at ESPN.com

68,000 post-production man hours went into turning “The Art of Flight” into a 3D movie. If this is standard for a post-production 3D rendering of a major movie, maybe we should be more forgiving for major movie houses that attempt to do this with other movies shot in 2D, that fail miserably when they try to convert to 3D after the fact. (CoughClashoftheTitanscough) Maybe. But it’s hard. There are so many bad 3D movies, and they are often so difficult to sit through that the extra cost we have to pay just to get nausea and a headache seems not only not worth it, but anger inducing.

This is not one of those movies. “The Art of Flight” is a movie that was made to be watched in 3D. Truly, before Brain Farm trekked up to Alaska with a Cineflex camera five years ago, no one had ever seen snowboarding in Alaska shot with the clarity and depth that we have now become accustomed to. But really, you’ve never seen Alaska, even shot with a Cineflex, until you’ve seen it in 3D. It might still be nausea-inducing, but only because the sheer scale and intensity of what these guys are riding up there becomes that much more crystal clear when it, literally, pops off the screen in front of you.

“The Art of Flight 3D” is screening in AMC theaters (surround sound!) for one day only. December 7. That’s it. So if you want to see it, get on your horse. Locations of a theater near you are listed on artoflightmovie.com, under the “screenings” tab. If you miss it, you’ll … have to buy a 3D TV and watch it at home?

Here’s the 2D trailer…
