Dimenco and Philips Announce MacBook Pro Retina Glasses-Free 3D

The following Press Release was issued by Dimenco:

Dimenco and Philips unveil their newest innovation, the “MacBook Pro Retina 3D”!

During the Flat Panel Display show 2012 held in Tokyo, Dimenco exhibited a fully functional MacBook Pro Retina 3D. The display makes use of the lenticular technology, which permanently attaches a lens on top of the screen with a thickness less than 3mm. This technology allows the viewer to perceive perfect 3D images without the use of clumsy eyewear.

The lenticular technology in the MacBook Pro Retina 3D is optimized for a single person with the use of face tracking. The onboard camera tracks the movement of the user and adjusts the 3D image to the position of the viewer for a continuous and optimal 3D experience.

Normally glasses-free 3D displays use a technique called “Multiview”. This technique allows multiple users to view 3D at the same time with a reduced resolution. The MacBook Pro Retina 3D, however, suffers much less from the resolution loss due to its single person optimization with face tracking.

Combined with a Retina Display (2880 x 1800) the screen holds up to modern day standards and delivers a truly exciting 3D performance! This does not mean the display can’t handle 2D content. Within the blink of an eye the screen switches back to its native 2D mode.

As well as other Dimenco glasses-free 3D displays, the MacBook Pro Retina 3D has a superb 3D viewing angle of 140°, which ensures an optimal viewing experience for the user.

Although this application has not been designed for commercial release yet, you may expect new exciting glasses-free 3D product news from Dimenco soon! Also be sure to check out our Facebook for upcoming photos of this and many more new 3D products and projects!
