DTS Teams with RGB Networks to Maintain Consistent Listening Experience Across Multiscreen Broadcasts

DTS, Inc., a creator of high-definition audio technology, and RGB Networks, a supplier of scalable multiscreen IP video delivery solutions, are collaborating between the two companies to integrate DTS audio solutions into RGB’s multiscreen IP video delivery products. Initially deployed on RGB’s TransAct Encoder/Transcoder, the joint solution now enables broadcasters and video service providers (VSPs) to distribute high definition audio across consumers’ portable devices and set-top boxes.

With the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act passed to prevent loud commercials, video delivery platforms must meet these and other loudness control standards globally on multiple devices. DTS audio solutions control and match content loudness without compromising sound quality, delivering a consistent, natural sound to support the multiscreen entertainment experience. By implementing DTS loudness solutions, broadcasters and VSPs can achieve compliance with the CALM Act and other governed loudness targets worldwide, allowing consumers to enjoy content and programming without having to worry about changing volume levels on their receivers during commercial breaks.

“The amount of entertainment content being consumed on video-enabled devices — large and small — is growing rapidly,” says Ramin Farassat, vice president, product marketing and business development for RGB Networks. “We are excited to be able to meet the needs of our customers by expanding our relationship with DTS to ensure that our multiscreen products deliver a high-quality audio entertainment experience free of loudness irregularities across all screens.”

A key component of RGB’s eVIA family of IP video products, the TransAct Encoder/Transcoder offers a highly flexible solution for a variety of encoding and transcoding applications and leverages a next-generation compression engine capable of pristine video quality at very low bitrates. With integrated DTS loudness control, the TransAct Encoder/Transcoder achieves unparalleled audio performance free of volume inconsistencies during commercial breaks.

“We recognize that consumers want to watch their favorite programs and movies at their convenience, which is why DTS is committed to ensuring that consumers receive a high-quality experience regardless of the kind of device they choose to watch on,” says Brian Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer at DTS, Inc. “We are excited to be working with RGB Networks to implement DTS technologies into RGB’s video platforms as this enables us to deliver on our commitment to a high-quality multiscreen experience.”
