Ericsson, AXTEL Deliver Next-Generation TV to Mexican Viewers

In Mexico, TV is more popular than ever. According to Ericsson ConsumerLab’s annual study, presented in the TV & Video Consumer Trend Report 2012, 24% of Mexican consumers say they have increased their TV subscriptions. To remain competitive and meet the growing consumer demand for TV services that offer greater control and interactivity, Mexican operator AXTEL has entered a partnership with Ericsson for the deployment, integration, and management of an end-to-end next generation TV platform.

The system deploys a number of Ericsson TV solutions, including the high-performance MPEG-4 AVC headend for linear and on-demand standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) TV channels, as well as the award-winning Ericsson Multiscreen TV Solution.

Jenaro Martínez, AXTEL TV Project Director, says: “We rely on Ericsson’s leadership in TV and managed services as we embark on this very important initiative. We are pleased to have Ericsson as our solutions provider and partner in providing our users with interactive and innovative TV services.”

Nicolás Brancoli, Vice President, Ericsson Latin America and Caribbean, says: “This contract marks the beginning of a new partnership between AXTEL and Ericsson, and underlines our commitment to offer innovative solutions to our customers. It allows us to help AXTEL meet consumers’ growing demand for TV services that offer greater control and interactivity.”

Ericsson’s TV solution will enable AXTEL to harness greater efficiencies, launch new, differentiated services and grow revenues as it provides its users with the latest-generation of personalized and interactive TV experiences. A key factor in AXTEL’s decision to choose Ericsson was Ericsson’s ability to offer a world class Network Operations Centre (NOC) and video management infrastructure to help mitigate operational complexities and risks. This will allow AXTEL to focus on its core business functions and to secure a successful service launch of its new triple play bundled offer in Mexico.

Ericsson has to date signed more than 240 IPTV contracts. These include commercial multi-screen contracts, IPTV system integration projects, IPTV headend contracts and IPTV infrastructure contracts for access, metro transport, and IP Edge.
