Gensler Looks To Expand on Sports-Venue Success

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome Gensler as a mobile/integrator sponsor. The global design firm comprises architects, designers, planners, and consultants who partner with clients on nearly 3,000 projects every year. With more than 3,500 professionals networked across 43 locations, Gensler combines localized experience with global perspective wherever new opportunities arise.

“We are looking at SVG as a way to connect with key operators in the sports-video world to further the Gensler expertise in working on projects within this type of venue,” says James Lee, firmwide leader of the Creative Media Group at Gensler.

The Creative Media practice has a notable history of developing broadcast facilities within the sports world. Recent projects include the new Time Warner RSN in Los Angeles, developed to broadcast the Lakers games. The facility, which will be operational by the beginning of the next NBA season, has multiple studios to allow simultaneous dual-language feeds.

Gensler also designed the Comcast RSN facility in Houston, built to broadcast the Astros and the Rockets. Additionally, the firm has recently worked with NBC Sports, managing design and construction of its new 300,000-square-ft. comprehensive production/broadcast facility in Stamford, CT.

Gensler’s Sports + Recreation practice draws on 30-plus years of experience in design and planning of innovative professional, collegiate, and international venues and sports-anchored entertainment districts. In addition to professional franchises, universities, and international federations, Gensler counts the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, MLS, and Olympics community as long-time clients.

Envisioned as a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility, the new Farmers Field in Los Angeles will be used both as a stadium and as a massive exhibition hall. AEG selected Gensler to complete preliminary design of the privately financed, 72,000-seat venue, which is expandable to 76,500 seats for special events. Conceived as an integrated component of the Los Angeles Convention Center, Farmers Field will house 1.7 million gross square ft. and will feature a retractable roof to adapt to varying uses.
